How I Turned a Basement Side Hustle Into a Seven-Figure Amazon Wholesale Business

In January 2022, I made one of the biggest decisions of my life. After spending seven years working as a Sports Coordinator with the NYC Department of Education, I left behind the stability of a steady paycheck to pursue something I had been building quietly in the background: an Amazon FBA wholesale business.
At the time, I was operating from a basement in New York with a laptop and a few thousand dollars in capital. To many people, the decision looked risky. From my perspective, it was calculated. I had spent months learning the wholesale model, testing products, studying supplier relationships, and proving that the business could generate consistent revenue. The potential was there, and I knew that if I wanted extraordinary results, I had to make a full commitment.
One of the first strategic decisions I made was choosing wholesale over private label. While private label has created many successful Amazon sellers, it also comes with significant challenges. Creating a brand requires large investments, long manufacturing timelines, and constant competition in crowded markets. A single market shift or algorithm update can dramatically impact sales.
Wholesale offered a different path. Instead of creating new products, I focused on selling products that already had proven demand. Customers already knew the brands, trusted the products, and left reviews that helped drive sales. My role was to source inventory from authorized suppliers and build strong relationships that would provide long-term opportunities.
The first six months were far from perfect. I made mistakes that cost both time and money. I contacted suppliers before my Amazon account was fully prepared. I purchased inventory before confirming category approvals. I underestimated how important ungating was for certain brands and product categories. Every mistake felt frustrating at the time, but each one taught me something valuable.
Rather than ignoring those lessons, I documented them. Every successful process was written down. Every challenge became a learning opportunity. Over time, I developed a system that allowed me to make better decisions and avoid repeating the same errors. Those systems eventually became the foundation of the educational framework we now use at Abuv The Par.
A major turning point came when I hired my first virtual assistant. Like many entrepreneurs, I initially tried to do everything myself. I handled supplier outreach, inventory management, listing updates, and administrative tasks. Eventually, I realized that many of these responsibilities could be delegated.
By creating standard operating procedures and assigning repetitive work to a virtual assistant, I freed up valuable time to focus on supplier relationships and business growth. Within 90 days, revenue doubled. That experience reinforced an important lesson: your time is your most valuable business asset.
As the business grew, I partnered with Tayeb Rahim and Shofi Ahad to co-found Abuv The Par. Together, we built a coaching program based on a simple philosophy. Most people do not fail because they lack effort. They fail because they lack a clear and proven system.
Today, our framework focuses on three key stages: building a solid Amazon foundation, developing supplier relationships, and creating scalable systems. The goal is not simply to make sales. The goal is to build a business that operates efficiently and creates long-term freedom.
Looking back, the biggest lesson I learned is that success comes from systems, not hustle alone. Every process you document and every team member you hire helps create a business that can grow beyond your personal involvement. That principle continues to guide everything we teach and everything we build at Abuv The Par.
